Title: Powerplay
Verse/Characters: Etreverse Generation I / Yannesse, mentions of Amy and Tsubame
Table: A - General
Prompt: 11. Red
Word Count: 305
Rating: G
Summary: Yannesse reflects on the color red.
Author's Notes: Thought I'd try getting into Yannesse's head some more.
Yannesse has always hated the color red.
It is the color from his youth, the color he sees whenever he gazes into his reflection. He hates mirrors for this - they always show him how ugly his eyes are. It's worse when people think he looks prettier wearing red, that it takes away the strangeness of a boy with red eyes, and turns him into something cute, something they can look at without feeling scared.
When he becomes a governor, he learns to hate the color even more, while at the same time learning to accept it as fact because it's the only color everyone will associate with him. Political and social games have never been his forte, but here, he has to take what he has been given, and complaining only makes him look weak. So he does what he must, always dressed in the color red while in public, and always playing the part of the eager, creative leader.
When he becomes Ketirra, he gains a little more freedom, so he rids himself of everyday clothing that are red. Yet, in the circle of five, he soon discovers that red has always been the color of the human Ketirra, and once more, he finds playing someone else's part.
Yannesse hates the color red.
It is the color of power, of everybody else's power, the color of his own weakness and uselessness. It is the color that reminds him that others can control him, can use him. It is a color he wants to be rid of, yet never can be. Even Amy, in their short time together, tells him how she loves it when his eyes look like they are burning, and Tsubame tells him not to be ashamed of his natural self.
Yannesse hates the color red.
To be honest, he prefers yellow.
End.
