Title: Contrast
Verse/Characters: Etreverse Generation II / Rune, Naitsu
Table: A - General
Prompt: 18. Black
Word Count: 206
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Rune and Naitsu, and the color black.
Author's Notes: Finally some second generation characters! I really should do more with them. Just a quick warning for implied sex, and if you squint there's a hint of slash.
Rune has, for as long as he can remember, always worn black. It is simply more convenient that way. After all, he had grown up near the sky mines, where it was only natural to become covered in soot and filth at one point. It had started with his work as a miner, but soon afterwards it became the only color he would wear.
As far as Rune was concerned though, black was just that. A color. It was a convenient color for him to wear, and that was that.
Naitsu loved the color.
"It's so...empty, you know," he had said once, while they were laying about in bed at night. "It's the color of emptiness...nothingness. Maybe that's why I like it."
"Is that why you approached me in the first place?" Rune had asked. It was the first time he had ever voiced a question about Naitsu's motivation in joining him. "Because I was wearing black during a carnival?"
A pause. Naitsu had looked away then, sweeping back his unruly, dark hair, gazing at the open window nearby.
"Maybe."
Out of all their nights together, that one night is the one Rune remembers the most.
Rune has never seen a reason not to wear black.
End.
